About

My birth name is Claudette Holder however, over the years I have been given many names. One of them being HezTah Hetakatah, which was given to me by a Dogon Priest, when I did my Initiation with The Earth Center.
Mama Adero Mawakana was given to me by my ancestors during a visit to The Gambia. The names have been a part of my journey in becoming the person I am today.

Born in the UK, from parents of Caribbean origin, I am the birth mother of six children, four boys and two girls, aged 39 to 20. Being married for 15 years and then divorced and becoming a single parent, my experience of motherhood has been challenging yet rewarding. My children are a blessing to me. I understand the journey of pregnancy, birth and parenthood in all it's beauty and complexity.
With a deep respect for the strength of women, including myself, my own experience of childbirth and motherhood has deepened my calling to being a Doula. I'm passionate about working with my community from the Afrikan Diaspora, ensuring that they feel seen, heard and supported in their birth experience. I am a member of Abuela Doulas "where black birth matters" however, my door is open to anyone who needs a doula--because everyone deserves care, respect, and advocacy during this transformative time.
In addition to my work as a doula, I volunteer with Neighbourhood Doulas, offering support to those who may not otherwise have access to it. Birth should be a time of empowerment, and I’m committed to making that a reality for as many people as possible.

When I am not supporting families, you’ll find me out in nature, travelling to new places, or unwinding at the spa. I absolutely love cooking—it’s one of the ways I show love and bring people together. And if you spend any time with me, you’ll quickly see that I don’t take life too seriously, believing that laughter is one of the best tools for healing. I bring warmth and humour into every space I enter.

If you’re looking for a doula who will walk beside you with knowledge, compassion, and a good dose of laughter, I’d love to connect. Let’s make your birth journey one that feels supported, empowered, and truly yours.

Mama Adero's Philosphy on Childbirth & being a Doula

I am committed to supporting women through their childbirth journey. I have a deep passion for empowering each mother with love, care and guidance to ensure a positive and transformative birthing experience.
When a woman becomes pregnant she is creating a spiritual and physical being; a life within a life. Her contentment is very important to the baby's growth and development.
My aim as your doula is to bring about emotional harmony, empowering you; the mother, to create a secure holding place for your unborn child, ensuring the best beginnings for your new baby."
During labour, I will offer continuous nurturing and reassurance, which will encourage you to tune into your own intuition, allowing your body to say what may be best at various times.
In essence, my Doula services embodies women's wisdom. I am compassionate, highly responsive and aware of the physical changes, moods and unspoken feelings of a woman in labour. I listen to the mother and mother her.
Childbirth is a family event. As your support during this time, I will not detract from the role of the baby's father or loved ones.
I am here to remind women of their Divine Feminine Energy that has been passed down through the generations, from your great-grandmothers to you. This energy supports and empowers you on your beautiful journey into motherhood.
